Jose Moreno was an infielder for the Mets in 1980. He appeared in 37 games and collected 9 hits and 9 runs batted in. Moreno split time between second base and third base in a reserve role with the team.

Moreno came to the Mets with Richie Hebner from the Phillies in a trade for Nino Espinosa on March 27, 1979. After spending the '79 season in the minor leagues, Jose joined the Mets in 1980. In his first major league start at San Francisco on June 18, Moreno had a double, a home run and three RBIs as the Mets lost to the Giants, 8-5. Four days later, he hit a two-run triple and scored a run in the Mets' 9-6 win at Los Angeles. Jose also had a pinch-hit, two-run homer during the Mets' 8-6 defeat to the Padres in 18 innings at Shea Stadium on August 26.

On December 15, 1980, Moreno was traded with John Pacella to the Padres for Randy Jones. He played in 34 games for the San Diego team in the strike-shortened 1981 season. Jose finished his career with the California Angels in 1982.
