Johnny Lewis was an outfielder for the Mets for three seasons. He batted .226 in 226 games from 1965 to 1967. Lewis had 153 hits as a Met, 46 of which were for extra bases.

Lewis came to the Mets in a trade with the Cardinals on December 8, 1964. He immediately became an impact player as he led the team with 64 runs scored in 1965. He also hit 15 home runs with 45 runs batted in and a team-high 59 walks during the season.

Johnny made the first putout on a triple play turned by the Mets in a 5-4 win over the Astros at Shea Stadium on April 15. He had a home run and a run-scoring single in a 5-3 Mets win over the Reds at Shea on May 14. Lewis homered in the 11th inning to break up a no-hitter by the Reds' Jim Maloney on June 14 to give the Mets a 1-0 win at Cincinnati. On July 29, he had a single, a double, two homers and 4 RBIs in the Mets' 14-0 win over the Cubs at Chicago's Wrigley Field.

In 1966 and 1967, Lewis got a total of 36 hits in 200 official at bats. He hit 5 homers in '66, one of which came off Dodgers' rookie Don Sutton in Los Angeles on May 29. This homer tied a game that the Mets went on to win, 7-6. Johnny finished his career with the Mets in 1967.
