John Valentin

John Valentin was an infielder for the Mets in 2002. He played in 114 games with the team. Valentin had 50 hits and 18 runs scored as a Met.
Valentin joined the Mets after ten years with the Red Sox. In '02, he played all four infield positions and tied for the team lead with 10 hit-by-pitches. At Shea Stadium on April 15, John hit a game-tying two-run homer in an eventual 7-6 Mets win over the Braves in 12 innings. He had two doubles, a homer and four runs batted in as the Mets defeated the Astros, 11-3, at Houston on May 3. Valentin hit a two-run homer in a 5-4 Mets victory over the Royals on June 23 at Shea. he doubled home a pair of runs in the Mets' 12-6 win at Philadelphia on July 2. John had a single and a two-run double in a 6-5 Mets victory over the Reds on July 28 at Shea. he also had an RBI double in the ninth inning of the Mets' 5-4 victory at Philadelphia on September 7.
Valentin retired from baseball after the '02 season. He later became a manager in the Dodgers' minor league system.
