Joe Sambito was a pitcher for the Mets in 1985. He made eight relief appearances with the team. Sambito had ten and two-thirds innings pitched as a Met.
Sambito was a reliever for the Astros between 1976 and 1984. He had 33 wins and 72 saves for the Houston team. In April of '85, Joe signed with the Mets as a free agent. He pitched a scoreless inning in the Mets' 5-4 victory over the Pirates in 18 innings at Shea Stadium on April 28. Joe hurled a scoreless ninth inning in a 2-0 Mets loss to the Padres at Shea on May 20. He was released by the team on August 23.
In 1986, Sambito recorded 12 saves for the Boston Red Sox in their pennant-winning season. He appeared in two games for the Sox in the '86 World Series against the Mets. Joe concluded his major league career with the Boston team in 1987.
