The Mets made a deal with the Padres in December of 1973. Pitcher Jim McAndrew went to San Diego in exchange for pitcher Steve Simpson. McAndrew had 36 wins and a 3.54 earned run average in six seasons with the Mets. Simpson had pitched in nine games with the Padres.
Simpson had a 10-7 won-lost record in 25 games for the Victoria Toros in 1974. The Mets' AA-level affiliate won the '74 Texas League championship. This was Steve's only season in the Mets' organization. He never returned to the majors.
McAndrew pitched in 15 games for the Padres in '74. He had one win and four losses with a 5.62 ERA. Jim was released by the San Diego team on June 1, ending his career.
