Jim McAndrew

Jim McAndrew was a pitcher for the Mets from 1968 to 1973. He appeared in 146 games as a member of the team. During his time in New York, Jim recorded 36 wins with a 3.54 earned run average.
McAndrew made his major league debut on July 21, 1968 against the Cardinals at St. Louis. Jim allowed a run on six hits with five strikeouts in six innings pitched. However, he was tagged with a 2-0 loss as Bob Gibson shut out the Mets. On August 26, Jim pitched in St. Louis again and recorded his first major league win with a 1-0 shutout over the Cards' Steve Carlton. He also pitched a two-hitter for a win in the Mets' 3-2 victory over the Cubs at Shea Stadium on September 17.
In 1969, McAndrew pitched two complete game shutouts in one week. He blanked the Giants with a two-hitter in a 6-0 Mets victory on August 20 and limited the Padres to five hits for a 3-0 win on August 26. Jim also pitched combined shutouts with Ron Taylor on June 24 against the Phillies and with Tug McGraw on August 2 against the Braves. On September 10, McAndrew pitched 11 innings in the Mets' 3-2 win over the Expos. This game put the team into first place in the National League East Division.
McAndrew posted 10 wins for the Mets in 1970, eight of which were complete games. Among these games was a team-leading 3 shutouts with a five-hitter over the Astros on June 8, a three-hitter against the Padres on July 21 and a five-hitter against the Cardinals on September 12. Jim also pitched eight innings and hit a run-scoring double in a 10-3 win over St. Louis on July 6.
After a limited 1971 season, McAndrew came back with a record of 11-8 in 1972. He recorded four complete games wins during the season, two of which came in St. Louis on May 27 and August 9. Jim recorded a save with four scoreless innings in the Mets' 5-4 win over the Giants at Shea on May 14. He also pitched seven and one-third innings of shutout ball and got the win in a 5-0 Mets victory over the Braves on August 15 at Shea.
Jim appeared in 23 games for the Mets in their 1973 pennant-winning season. He recorded three wins, the last of which came in a 6-4 Mets victory at Pittsburgh on May 13. At Los Angeles on May 24, McAndrew got a save in a 19-inning, 7-3 Mets' win over the Dodgers.
On December 20, 1973, McAndrew was traded to the Padres for pitcher Steve Simpson. Jim appeared in 15 games for San Diego in the 1974 season to conclude his career.
