Jim Gosger

Jim Gosger was an outfielder for the Mets in 1969, 1973 and 1974. He had 27 hits in 74 games with the team. Gosger drove in 11 runs and scored 12 times as a Met.
Gosger played for the Seattle Pilots before joining the Mets during the '69 season. In September, he got to bat 15 times in 10 game appearances. Jim's first hit as a Met was a double in the team's 1-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader at Pittsburgh on September 12. Gosger also doubled to drive in the winning run in the Mets' 2-0 victory at Philadelphia on September 28.
Following the '69 season, Gosger was traded with Bob Heise to the Giants for Ray Sadecki and Dave Marshall. He later joined the Montreal Expos, with whom he played in 1970 and 1971. Jim returned to the Mets' organization with a season at AAA-level Tidewater (Norfolk, Virginia) in 1972.
In 1973, Gosger was recalled by the Mets during the year. He batted .239 with 24 total bases between May 3 and July 3. At Shea Stadium on May 9, Jim had a sacrifice fly and two runs scored in the Mets' 8-1 win over the Braves. He had a single and two RBIs in a 9-2 Mets victory at San Diego on June 3. In the first game of a twinbill at Shea on June 27, Gosger had an RBI single during the Mets' 7-run first inning against the Phillies that led to a 7-6 win.
Gosger played 26 games for the Mets in 1974. He had three singles and three runs scored for the season. At Atlanta on August 25, Jim had two singles and scored the game's only run on a single by Sadecki for a 1-0 Mets win over the Braves. He also scored a run in his final major league game (a 4-0 Mets win at Pittsburgh) on September 22.
