Jerry Morales was an outfielder for the Mets in 1980. He had 49 hits in 94 games played with the team. Morales had three home runs and 30 runs batted in as a Met.
After eleven seasons in the major leagues, Morales came to the Mets in a trade with the Tigers on October 31, 1979. He played all three outfield positions during the ’80 season. Jerry started the year with a six-game hitting streak, going 8-for-20 (.400) with a homer and six RBIs. Jerry had two singles, a double and two RBIs in the Mets’ 9-5 win at St. Louis on May 27. He had a pair of singles and drove in a run in a 7-4 Mets victory over the Cardinals in a doubleheader opener on July 13 at Shea Stadium. Morales homered for the Mets’ final run in a 4-3 win over the Expos in the second game of a twinbill at Montreal on August 4. He drove in three runs with a homer and a single in a 7-1 Mets triumph on August 7 at Montreal. At Shea on August 21, Jerry hit a two-run double in the Mets’ 5-1 victory over the Giants. He also drove in the Mets’ first run with a sacrifice fly in a 9-6 win in 11 innings at Pittsburgh on September 20.
Morales joined the Cubs as a free agent in 1981. He played final three seasons of his career with the Chicago team.
