Jerry DiPoto was a pitcher for the Mets in 1995 and 1996. He made 115 relief appearances for the team. DiPoto recorded 11 wins and two saves as a Met.
DiPoto came to the Mets in a trade with the Indians in December of 1994. He led all Mets pitchers with 58 games in ’95. Jerry got his first Mets win in the team’s 9-8 triumph at Pittsburgh on July 7. He pitched two scoreless innings for the win in a 7-2 Mets victory at Chicago on July 17. DiPoto had two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief for a save in the Mets’ 11-6 win at San Francisco on September 3. He also pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings for a save in an 8-2 Mets victory over the Phillies on September 17 at Shea Stadium.
In ’96, DiPoto had a 7-2 won-lost record. He struck out 52 batters in 77 and one-third innings pitched. In the season opener on April 1, Jerry pitched a pair of scoreless innings and got the win in the Mets’ 7-6 triumph over the Cardinals at Shea. He had three innings of two-hit shutout relief for the win in a 9-4 Mets victory over the Reds at Shea on June 21. DiPoto was the winning pitcher in the Mets’ 9-6 triumph at Montreal on July 5. He pitched the final two innings for the win in a 3-2 Mets victory over the Pirates in 10 innings on July 31 at Shea. Jerry also got the win in a 6-4 Mets triumph over the Braves at Shea on September 13.
DiPoto was traded to the Rockies after the ’96 season. He pitched for the Colorado team from 1997 to 2000 to conclude his career.
