Jeff McKnight was an infielder for the Mets in 1989 and from 1992 to 1994. He appeared in 173 games with the team. McKnight had 72 hits for 95 total bases as a Met.

McKnight got to bat 12 times during the ’89 season. He singled in his first major league at bat in an 8-4 Mets loss at Chicago on June 6. One day later, Jeff singled and scored two runs in the Mets’ 10-5 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

After spending two seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, McKnight returned to the Mets in 1992. He played all four infield positions and right field during the year. At Shea Stadium on August 28, Jeff had a single, a triple, a three-run double and two runs scored in a 12-1 Mets win over the Reds. He singled three times and drove in two runs in an 8-6 Mets loss to the Braves in 14 innings on August 31 at Shea. McKnight hit a tie-breaking two-run homer to give the Mets a 4-2 triumph at Chicago on September 15. He also had a single, a two-run homer and two runs scored in the Mets’ 8-7 win over the Cubs on September 22 at Shea.

In 1993, McKnight played in 105 games with the Mets. He collected 42 hits and scored 19 runs for the season. Jeff hit a two-run homer in a 4-3 Mets victory over the Reds on May 29 at Shea. He got a two-run single in a 4-0 Mets win at Los Angeles on July 25. Jeff had three singles in the Mets’ 3-2 defeat to the Braves on August 10 at Shea. In the ninth inning at Shea on August 24, he tripled and scored the winning run for a 5-4 Mets triumph over the Reds. McKnight had two doubles and two runs scored in the Mets’ 8-3 victory at Chicago on September 2. He also hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer in a 6-1 Mets win over the Cardinals on September 28 at Shea.

McKnight played his last major league season with the Mets in 1994. He got into 31 games for the year, none of which he was in the starting lineup. At Philadelphia on August 11, Jeff got a single in his final major league at bat in the Mets’ 2-1 loss to the Phillies that officially closed the strike-shortened ’94 season.

In 1997, McKnight played in 44 games for the Columbia (TN) team in the independent Heartland League. He also appeared in 10 games for the Atlantic League’s Newark Bears in 1998 to conclude his playing career.
