The Mets and Dodgers made a trade during Spring Training in 2005. Catcher-first baseman Jason Phillips was sent to Los Angeles in exchange for lefthanded pitcher Kazuhisa Ishii. Phillips had played in 264 games with the Mets over the previous four seasons, batting .262 with 19 homers and 95 runs batted in. Ishii had a 36-25 won-lost record in 86 games pitched in three seasons with the Dodgers.
Ishii went 3-9 with a 5.14 earned run average in 19 games as a Met in 2005. He was released by the team the following winter. Phillips batted .238 in 121 games as a Dodger in '05. Jason signed with the Blue Jays as a free agent a year later.
