Jason Hardtke

Jason Hardtke was a second baseman for the Mets in 1996 and 1997. He appeared in 49 games with the team. Hardtke batted .230 with two homers and 14 runs batted in as a Met.
Hardtke joined the Mets in September of '96. In his major league debut on September 8, he had two doubles and two runs scored as the Mets defeated the Braves, 6-2, at Atlanta. One day later, Jason drove in three runs with two singles in the Mets' 6-1 win over the Marlins at Shea Stadium. Hardtke had a run-scoring double in a 7-2 Mets victory at Philadelphia on September 19. He also had two singles and an RBI in a 6-5 Mets loss to the Phillies on September 27 at Shea.
In '97, Hardtke had 15 hits in 30 games with the Mets. He accumulated 23 total bases during the year. At Shea on June 19, Jason singled home the winning run in the ninth inning for a 7-6 Mets victory over the Pirates. The next day, he drove in the only run of the game with a sixth-inning single for a 1-0 Mets triumph over Pittsburgh. Hardtke hit a single and his first major league home run in the Mets' 8-5 win at Houston on August 1. At Florida on September 21, he homered to put the Mets ahead to stay for a 2-1 victory. Jason also had a single, a double and a run scored in the Mets' 8-2 victory over the Braves on September 28 at Shea.
Hardtke was claimed off waivers by the Cubs after the '97 season. He played in 18 games for the Chicago team in 1998. Jason continued to play in the minor leagues before ending his career in 2001.
