Herm Winningham

Herm Winningham was an outfielder for the Mets in 1984. He played in 14 games with the team. Winningham had a .407 batting average as a Met.

Winningham was selected by the Mets in the first round of the 1981 free agent draft. After some time in the minor leagues, he joined the parent club in September of '84. In the second game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium on September 1, Herm had a single, a double, a run batted in and two runs scored in a 10-6 Mets win over the Padres. He had an RBI single, a run scored and a stolen base in the Mets' 6-4 victory over the Phillies on September 25 at Shea. Winningham hit a two-run triple in an 8-4 Mets victory at Montreal on September 29. One day later, he singled three times in a season-closing 5-4 Mets loss to the Expos.

On December 10, 1984, Winningham and three other Met players were traded to the Expos for Gary Carter. He played four seasons with the Montreal team. Herm was a member of the Cincinnati Reds' World Championship team of 1990. He ended his major league career with the Boston Red Sox in 1992.
