After not making a trade all year, the Mets got together with the Tigers for a transaction in December of 1968. The team sent catcher Hector Valle to Detroit in exchange for pitcher Jack DiLauro. Valle was a seven-year minor leaguer who had played in nine games for the Dodgers a few years earlier. DiLauro was in the Tigers' minor league system for five years.
DiLauro pitched in 23 games for the Mets in 1969. He had one win and a 2.40 earned run average with the team in its World Championship season. Jack was then selected by the Houston Astros in the Rule 5 draft.
Valle played two seasons in the minor leagues to end his career in 1971.
