Harry Parker was a pitcher for the Mets from 1973 to 1975. He recorded 14 wins and 11 saves in 96 games with the team. Parker struck out 143 batters as a Met.
Harry pitched parts of two seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals before coming to New York in a multi-player trade. After spending a year in the minor leagues, Parker had a won-lost record of 8-4 with a 3.35 earned run average in the Mets' 1973 pennant-winning season. He got a win in his first game as a Met, 2-1, at Philadelphia on April 15. Parker shut out the Phils for seven innings in the game. Six days later, Parker again pitched seven scoreless innings in a 5-0 combined shutout with Tug McGraw against the Expos at Shea Stadium. On July 9, he recorded the win with three shutout innings of relief as the Mets defeated the Astros, 2-1, in 12 innings at Shea. Harry also pitched three scoreless innings to get the win in the Mets' 10-3 victory over the Cardinals at Shea on August 6.
Parker pitched four games in the '73 post-season for the Mets. His only decisions were losses in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series to the Reds and in Game 3 of the World Series to the Athletics.
In the Mets' dismal 1974 season, Harry had a record of 4-12 and led the team with 4 saves. He lost 7 of his first eight decisions in '74 before recording wins with two solid outings at Shea. On July 3, Parker pitched eight shutout innings against the Phillies in the Mets' 6-2 victory. Harry then pitched eight innings on July 8 in a 2-1 victory over the Padres. On August 12, Parker defeated the Dodgers, 3-1, at Shea for the only complete game of his career.
Harry appeared in 18 games for the Mets in '75, recording 2 wins and 2 saves. Both of his victories came in Montreal on April 27 (7-6) and June 17 (5-2 in 11 innings in second game of a doubleheader.) He then spent nearly a month on the disabled list with an injured shoulder. On August 4, Parker was sold to the Cardinals and ended his career with the Cleveland Indians in 1976.
