Grover Powell

Grover Powell was a pitcher for the Mets in 1963. He pitched 49 and two-thirds innings in 20 games with the team. Powell had a 2.72 earned run average as a Met.
Powell joined the Mets during the '63 season. He made his major league debut by pitching a scoreless ninth innings against the Dodgers at the Polo Grounds on July 13. In the first game of a doubleheader at Philadelphia on August 20, Grover pitched a four-hit shutout in his first major league start as the Mets defeated the Phillies, 4-0. This was the only win for Powell as a major leaguer. Grover pitched five scoreless innings and singled for his first major league hit in a 2-1 Mets loss at Pittsburgh on August 27. Powell also recorded six strikeouts, singled and scored a run in the Mets' 8-6 defeat to the Phillies on September 17 at the Polo Grounds.
Powell pitched in the Mets' minor league system until 1966. He continued to pitch in the Reds' and Braves' systems up to his retirement in 1970.
