Greg McMichael was a relief pitcher for the Mets from 1997 to 1999. He had 13 wins and 8 saves as a member of the team. McMichael posted a 3.54 earned run average while pitching for the Mets.

McMichael was acquired by the Mets from the Braves in December of 1996. In the ’97 season, he recorded 7 wins and 7 saves in a team-high 73 game appearances. Greg pitched three scoreless innings with six strikeouts for the win in the Mets’ 5-3 Mets victory in 10 innings at Montreal on April 27. He fanned three batters in two innings and got the win as the Mets defeated the Cardinals, 7-4, on May 2 at Shea Stadium. McMichael earned a save with two innings of perfect relief in a 6-2 Mets win over the Marlins at Shea on July 4. He fanned four batters and picked up the win in the Mets’ 7-6 triumph in 10 innings on July 13 at Atlanta. Greg also pitched one and two-thirds perfect innings for a save in a 4-2 Mets win at San Diego on July 25.

In 1998, McMichael had a 5-3 won-lost record for the Mets. He recorded 44 strikeouts in 53 and two-thirds innings pitched with the team during the year. At Shea on April 3, Greg pitched two scoreless innings and got the win in the Mets’ 2-1 victory over the Pirates. He struck out three batters for a save in a 7-3 Mets win over the Padres at Shea on July 28. McMichael was the winning pitcher in the Mets’ 8-7 victory over the Braves on September 7 at Shea. At Houston on September 16, he pitched an inning of scoreless relief and got the win in a 4-3 Mets triumph in 11 innings.

McMichael pitched in 19 games for the Mets in 1999. He had one win and 18 strikeouts as a member of the team during the year. Greg’s only Mets win of ’99 came on June 22 in an 8-2 triumph over the Marlins at Shea.

On July 31, 1999, McMichael was traded to the Oakland Athletics. He appeared in 17 games for the Athletics over the rest of the season. Greg concluded his career with the Braves in 2000.
