Gordon Richardson was a lefthanded pitcher for the Mets in 1965 and 1966. He pitched in 50 games and had a won-lost record on 2-4 with a 5.20 earned run average. Richardson recorded 58 strikeouts in 71 innings pitched with the Mets.

Richardson was acquired by the Mets with Johnny Lewis from the Cardinals for Elio Chacon and Tracy Stallard on December 8, 1964. Gordon began the '65 season at AAA-level Buffalo before joining the Mets in July. He got credit for the win in two consecutive relief appearances on August 22 against his former Cardinals team and August 25 against the Dodgers. These were Richardson's only victories as a Mets pitcher. On September 3, he struck out five batters in four hitless innings to record a save in the Mets' 6-3 win at St. Louis.

In 1966, Gordon pitched a total of 18 innings in 15 games for the Mets. On April 24, he recorded his only save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning in the Mets' 4-3 win at Atlanta. Richardson made his only start of the season in the first game of a Memorial Day doubleheader on May 30 at Shea Stadium. In the game against the Phillies, he was removed in the second inning and was the losing pitcher. Gordon made three more relief appearances before being sent to AAA Jacksonville and did not return to the major leagues.

Notes

  • Richardson was the last Mets player to wear uniform number 41 before the arrival of Tom Seaver.
