Gene Woodling

Gene Woodling was an outfielder for the Mets in 1962. He played in 81 games with the team. Woodling had a .274 batting average with five homers and 24 runs batted in as a Met.
Woodling came to the Mets from the Washington Senators on June 15, 1962. In his debut with the team two days later, he had a single, a run-scoring double and two runs scored in an 8-7 loss to the Cubs at the Polo Grounds. Gene homered in the Mets’ 6-5 win over the Braves on June 19 at the Polo Grounds. He had a game-winning three-run double in an 8-5 Mets victory at San Francisco on July 2. Woodling had a pinch-hit two-run homer that put the Mets ahead to stay in a 9-8 triumph at St. Louis on July 28. He had two singles and two doubles in an 8-7 Mets defeat to the Phillies in a 13-inning doubleheader nightcap on August 15 at the Polo Grounds. Gene had two hits in each of four consecutive games from August 29 to September 1. At Houston on September 9, he had an RBI single for his last major league hit in a Mets-Colt .45s game that ended in a 7-7 tie after eight innings.
In March of 1963, Woodling was released by the Mets, ending his 17-season major league career.
