Gene Walter

Gene Walter was a pitcher for the Mets in 1987 and 1988. He appeared in 40 games with the team. Walter had one win and 25 strikeouts in 36 and one-third innings pitched as a Met.

Walter came to the Mets in a six-player trade with the Padres on December 11, 1986. In the '87 season, he had a 3.20 earned run average. Gene was the winning pitcher in his first Mets game on April 9 as the team defeated the Pirates, 4-2, at Shea Stadium.

In 1988, Walter pitched in 19 games with the Mets. He was traded to the Seattle Mariners on July 11. Gene appeared in 16 games for the Mariners in '88. He concluded his career in the minor leagues in 1993.
