Gary Rajsich was an outfielder and first baseman for the Mets in 1982 and 1983. He played in 91 games with the team. Rajsich batted .273 with three home runs and 15 runs batted in as a Met.

Rajsich came to the Mets’ organization prior to the 1981 season. At AAA-level Tidewater (Norfolk, Virginia), he had 155 total bases (including 24 homers) in 74 games played in ’81. Gary was on the Mets’ roster for all of 1982. He doubled for his first major league hit in a 5-4 Mets win at Chicago on April 12. At Shea Stadium on May 18, he drove in three runs with his first major league homer in the Mets’ 7-4 win over the Reds. Rajsich had three singles, a run scored and an RBI in a 7-2 Mets loss to the Phillies in the second game of a doubleheader at Shea on July 4. He singled, doubled and drove in a run in the Mets’ 6-2 win at San Francisco on July 21. Gary also had a pinch-hit solo homer in a 6-2 Mets loss to the Cardinals in a doubleheader nightcap on September 18 at Shea.

After spending the 1983 season in the minor leagues, Rajsich got to bat 36 times for the Mets in September and October. He collected 12 hits for 18 total bases with the parent club during the year. Gary had a two-run single in a 7-6 Mets win at Chicago on September 24. He hit a home run in an 11-7 Mets loss to the Cubs the following day. Rajsich singled twice, doubled and scored a run in the Mets’ 5-4 victory over the Expos on October 1 at Shea. The next day, he did exactly the same in a 5-4 Mets win over the Expos at Shea that completed a season-closing doubleheader sweep.

Rajsich was sold to the Cardinals in April of 1984. He appeared in seven for the St. Louis team in ’84 and in 51 games for the San Francisco Giants in 1985. Gary then played three seasons with the Chunichi Dragons of Japan’s Central League to conclude his career.
