Gary Kolb was an outfielder for the Mets in 1965. In 40 games with the team, he got 15 hits and drove in 7 runs. Kolb played all three outfield positions in his brief time with the Mets.

The Mets received Kolb from the Milwaukee Braves in a trade for Jesse Gonder on July 21, 1965. On the same day, he was the Mets' leadoff hitter in their game at Pittsburgh. Gary went hitless in four at bats against the Pirates' Don Cardwell, but the Mets came out with a 1-0 win on Al Jackson's two-hitter.

Kolb had a run-scoring double in the Mets' 14-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader at Chicago on July 29. Against the Cubs at Shea Stadium from August 6 to August 8, he went 6-for-15 (.400) and scored 5 runs in a four-game series. In the first of these games, Gary hit a three-run homer for all the Mets' scoring in a 4-3 loss.

In 1966, Kolb spent the season with the Mets' AAA-level team in Jacksonville. He played in 100 games with the Suns, 12 of them as a pitcher. On December 6, Gary and Dennis Ribant were dealt to the Pirates for Cardwell and Don Bosch. Kolb ended his career with the Pirates in 1969.
