Frank Taveras

Frank Taveras was a shortstop for the Mets from 1979 to 1982. He hit .263 in 378 games played with the team. Taveras had 64 doubles, 12 triples and 90 stolen bases as a member of the Mets.
Taveras came to the Mets from the Pirates in a trade for Tim Foli on April 19, 1979. He tied a team record with 9 triples and set a new one with 42 stolen bases in the '79 season. Frank had a triple and a run scored in the Mets' 4-2 win at Philadelphia on April 22. He got a game-winning single in the 11th inning for an 8-7 Mets victory over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium on May 20. Taveras drove in the winning run with an 11th-inning single for a 5-4 Mets win at Atlanta on June 1. He also had four singles and two stolen bases in the Mets' 9-8 win in 11 innings at Chicago on June 30.
In '79, Frank hit his only home run as a Met in the team's 3-2 win at Cincinnati on August 18. He also had four singles and a stolen base in a 7-6 Mets triumph at St. Louis on September 28.
Frank had a team-leading 130 singles and batted .279 in 1980. He drove in 25 runs and stole 32 bases during the year. Taveras had two doubles and two steals in the Mets' 3-0 win over the Braves at Shea on May 25. Against the Astros on August 1, he had a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 5-4 Mets victory. One day later, he had two singles and a double in a 5-3 Mets win over Houston. At St. Louis on August 8, Frank singled three times and stole two bases in the Mets' 3-2 victory over the Cardinals. He also had a two-run single and a sacrifice fly in a 9-5 Mets win at San Francisco on August 30.
Taveras played in 84 games for the Mets in the strike-shortened 1981 season. He had 65 hits and 16 stolen bases with 11 RBIs for the year. In the Mets' 7-4 victory over the Dodgers at Shea on May 9, Frank had a two-run triple, a sacrifice fly and a stolen base. On June 3, he had three singles, three steals and two runs scored in a 6-2 Mets win at Philadelphia. Frank also had an RBI single and scored the winning run in a 3-2 Mets triumph over the Astros at Shea on August 27.
On December 11, 1981, Taveras was traded to the Montreal Expos for minor league pitcher Steve Ratzer. Frank played in 48 games for the Expos in 1982 to conclude his career.
