Frank Lary

Frank Lary was a pitcher for the Mets in 1964 and 1965. He had a 3.77 earned run average in 27 games as a member of the team. Lary recorded three wins and 50 strikeouts as a Met.

During his eleventh season with the Detroit Tigers, Lary came to the Mets in '64. As a Met, he pitched 57 and one-third innings for the year. At Shea Stadium on May 31, Frank made his Mets debut with two perfect innings in the team's 8-6 loss to the Giants in a 23-inning doubleheader nightcap. He pitched a complete game six-hitter with six strikeouts for a 5-1 Mets win over the Reds in the second game of a doubleheader on July 12 at Shea. Lary pitched a two-hit shutout and had a run-scoring single for a 3-0 Mets victory over the Colt .45s in a twinbill opener at Shea on July 31. Frank was traded by the Mets to the Milwaukee Braves for Dennis Ribant on August 8.

After finishing the '64 season with the Milwaukee team, Lary returned to the Mets in 1965. He had a 2.98 ERA in seven starts and seven relief appearances. At Shea on May 16, Frank pitched two scoreless innings for a save in the Mets' 8-5 win over the Reds that completed a doubleheader sweep. He pitched eight innings of three-hit ball and got the win in the Mets' 4-1 victory to cap a sweep of a twinbill at Philadelphia on May 24. In a game at Cincinnati on June 14, Lary pitched eight innings of shutout ball while the Reds' Jim Maloney was holding the Mets hitless. The Mets eventually won the game, 1-0, in 11 innings.

Lary was traded to the Chicago White Sox on July 8, 1965. The Mets received catcher Jimmie Schaffer to complete the deal on July 26. Frank pitched in 14 games for the Sox in '65 to conclude his career.
