Félix Millán was a second baseman for the Mets from 1973 to 1977. He batted .278 in 681 games in his five seasons with the team. Millan had 308 runs scored and 902 total bases as a Met.
Millan came to the Mets with George Stone from the Atlanta Braves in a trade for Gary Gentry and Danny Frisella on November 1, 1972. In his first year in New York, he set a Mets record with 185 hits in the pennant-winning '73 season. On June 16, Felix got four singles in the Mets' 10-2 win over the Padres at Shea Stadium. He singled to drive home the winning run in the 12th inning for a 2-1 Mets triumph over the Astros at Shea on July 9. Millan had an 18-game hitting streak, going 31-for-75 (.413), from July 13 to August 1. He also had a game-winning single in the 10th inning to give the Mets a 1-0 victory over the Giants at Shea on August 24.
In the '73 post-season, Millan had 12 hits in 12 games played. He went 6-for-19 (.316) in the Mets' National League Championship Series win over the Reds. He also had six hits and three runs scored against the Athletics in the '73 World Series.
Millan led the Mets with 121 singles in 1974. He was also the National League leader with 24 sacrifice bunts during the season. Felix had three singles (the last of which drove in the winning run in the ninth inning) in a 5-2 Mets win at San Diego on April 25. His two-run single put the Mets ahead to stay in a 4-2 victory over the Giants on May 8 at Shea. Millan batted .300 (12-for-40) in a 10-game hitting streak from August 1 to August 11. He also singled twice, doubled and scored a run in the Mets' 4-0 win at Pittsburgh on September 22.
In 1975, Millan became the first Met ever to play in all 162 games of a regular season. He had 191 hits to break his own team record and set a new team mark with 37 doubles for the year. Felix singled twice, doubled and scored the winning run in the Mets' 4-3 victory over the Dodgers at Shea on May 28. He had a two-run single and a two-run double in a 7-2 Mets win over the Cubs on July 2 at Shea. Millan had four singles and four runs batted in as the Mets defeated the Cubs, 9-8, in 10 innings at Wrigley Field on July 26. He singled twice and doubled twice for three RBIs in an 11-7 Mets win on July 28 at St. Louis. Felix also had a three-run double in a 9-7 Mets victory in 11 innings over the Phillies at Shea on September 20.
Felix had 150 hits and a .282 batting average to lead the Mets in 1976. His total of 25 doubles was also a team high for the season. From April 16 to April 21, Millan got at least two hits in each of six consecutive games. During this streak, he went 15-for-30 (.500) and hit his only home run of the year. He had a 12-game hitting streak in which he hit .340 (17-for-50) from June 16 to June 28. Felix scored three runs in a 13-0 Mets win over the Cardinals on July 1 at Shea. He had three singles and the game-winning RBI in a 2-0 Mets victory over the Braves at Shea on July 18. Millan also singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 2-1 Mets triumph over the Dodgers on August 28 at Shea.
With his season cut short by an injury, Millan played in 91 games for the Mets in 1977. He had 78 hits during the year, 15 of which were for extra bases. At Chicago on April 9, Felix singled three times, doubled and scored two runs in an 8-6 Mets win. He had a single and a home run in the Mets' 6-1 victory over the Pirates in the second game of a doubleheader at Shea on July 15. Millan went 6-for-9 (including a homer) in the Mets' 8-3 and 7-4 wins at San Francisco on July 26 and July 27. He also singled, doubled and drove in two runs in an 8-7 Mets victory over the Dodgers in 12 innings on August 1 at Shea.
From 1978 to 1980, Millan concluded his career as a player with three seasons in Japan.
