Ernie White

Ernie White was a coach for the Mets in 1963. He served under Casey Stengel in the Mets' second season.

White had a seven-season career as a pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Braves. He compiled 30 wins and posted a 2.78 earned run average. Ernie pitched a six-hit shutout for the Cardinals against the Yankees in Game 3 of the 1942 World Series.

In 1948, White was a coach for the Braves during his final season as an active player. He began a career as a minor league manager in 1949 that lasted throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s. Ernie managed the Mets' A-level team in Augusta, Georgia in 1962. Following his one year on the staff of the parent club, White served his fifteenth and final season as a minor league manager in 1964 with the Mets' AA-level team at Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

White died on May 22, 1974 at the age of 57.
