Eric Hillman

Eric Hillman was a lefthanded pitcher for the Mets from 1992 to 1994. He appeared in 49 games with the team. Hillman recorded four wins and 96 strikeouts as a Met.
Hillman was drafted by the Mets out of Eastern Illinois University in 1987. He pitched at all minor league levels in the Mets’ system before reaching the majors in ’92. On August 11, Eric pitched eight shutout innings and got his first major league win in a 2-0 Mets triumph over the Pirates at Shea Stadium. He was also the winning pitcher in the Mets’ 5-3 victory at San Francisco on August 26.
In 1993, Hillman pitched 145 innings with the Mets. He struck out 60 batters in 27 games during the season. In the second game of a doubleheader at Shea on July 8, Eric shut out the Dodgers for five innings before the Mets went on to a 6-3 win in the 10th. He pitched eight innings of shutout ball, but got a no-decision in the Mets’ 2-1 victory in 10 innings at San Diego on July 19. At Los Angeles on July 25, Hillman recorded his first major league shutout with a five-hitter for a 4-0 Mets win over the Dodgers. He singled twice in a 4-1 Mets loss to the Expos at Shea on September 25. Eric also had a complete game win in the Mets’ 3-2 victory over the Cardinals on September 30 at Shea.
Eric started six games and relieved five times for the Mets in 1994. He pitched a total of 34 and two-thirds innings in the strike-shortened season. Hillman made his final appearance in a major league game in a 12-2 Mets loss at Colorado on May 30.
From 1995 to 1997, Hillman pitched for the Chiba Lotte Marines and Yomiuri Giants in Japan. He had a 26-19 won-lost record and a 2.64 earned run average in his three seasons overseas. Eric concluded his career in the Astros’ minor league system in 2000.
