Ellis Valentine

Ellis Valentine was an outfielder for the Mets in 1981 and 1982. He batted .261 in 159 games with the team. Valentine had 69 runs batted in and 197 total bases during his time as a Met.
After six years with the Expos, Valentine was acquired by the Mets in a trade for Jeff Reardon on May 29, 1981. He got 35 hits over the rest of the strike-torn '81 season. At Shea Stadium on August 16, Ellis hit a two-run double in the Mets' 5-2 win over the Phillies. He drove in two runs to help the Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Braves at Shea on September 5. Valentine also had a double, two home runs and 5 RBIs in the Mets' 10-9 loss at Chicago on September 24.
In 1982, Valentine had a .288 batting average and eight homers for the season. At Shea on May 31, he had a homer and three singles in a 10-4 Mets win over the Braves. He homered to drive in the Mets' only runs in a 2-1 victory at Pittsburgh on June 14. Ellis hit a three-run homer in the Mets' 9-7 triumph over the Padres at Shea on July 10. He drove in the winning run with a single in a 6-4 Mets victory over the Cubs on August 13 at Shea. Valentine also hit a double and a three-run homer in a 10-2 Mets win over the Reds at Shea on September 5.
Following the '82 season, Valentine signed with the California Angels as a free agent. He played his final major league season with the Texas Rangers in 1985.
