Elio Chacon

Elio Chacon was a shortstop for the Mets in their inaugural 1962 season. He played in 118 games and led the team with 12 stolen bases. Chacon got 87 hits and scored 49 runs as a Met.

After playing in the 1961 World Series for the Cincinnati Reds, Elio was taken by the Mets in the expansion draft. He made his Mets debut as a pinch-runner in the team's first home game at the Polo Grounds on April 13. In the second game of a doubleheader on May 12, Chacon drove in three runs with a triple and two singles in the Mets' 8-7 win over the Braves. On June 12, he had a double, three singles and three runs scored as the Mets defeated the Cubs, 11-6, at Chicago. Elio also had a home run and a stolen base in a 10-9 Mets win over the Reds at the Polo Grounds on September 14.

Chacon spent the 1963 and 1964 seasons at AAA-level Buffalo. On December 8, 1964, he was traded with Tracy Stallard to the St. Louis Cardinals for Johnny Lewis and Gordon Richardson. Elio never got into a game for the Cards and his career came to an end.
