Ed Bauta

Ed Bauta was a pitcher for the Mets in 1963 and 1964. He appeared in 17 games with the team. Bauta had a 5.28 earned run average as a Met.
Bauta came to the Mets in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals in August of 1963. He recorded 13 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched over the rest of the regular season. Ed had no wins, losses or saves with the Mets in '63.
In 1964, Bauta relieved in eight games for the Mets. In the first game ever at Shea Stadium on April 17, he was tagged with the loss in a 4-3 Mets defeat to the Pirates. Ed recorded a save in the Mets' 3-2 victory in the second game of a doubleheader at Pittsburgh on April 26. He was also the losing pitcher in a 6-5 Mets loss in a twinbill opener on May 3 at Cincinnati.
Bauta finished the '64 season with the Mets' AAA-level team in Buffalo. He continued to pitch in the Mets' system until 1968. Ed concluded his playing career in the minor leagues in 1973.
