Dwight Bernard was a pitcher for the Mets in 1978 and 1979. He appeared in 62 games with the team. Bernard had one win and 46 strikeouts as a Met.

Bernard had 48 innings pitched for the Mets during the '78 season. In his major league debut on June 29, he pitched one inning of a 4-3 Mets loss at Pittsburgh. Dwight made his first major league start against the Astros in the second game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium on July 20. He got a no-decision in the Mets' 5-4 win in 11 innings. Bernard pitched a scoreless ninth inning to finish off the Mets' 10-4 victory at San Francisco on August 30 At Shea on September 10, he pitched a scoreless eighth inning and recorded his first win as the Mets defeated the Pirates, 11-9.

In 1979, Bernard pitched in 32 games for the Mets. He had two scoreless innings in a 10-3 Mets victory over the Giants on April 24 at Shea. Dwight also pitched three innings of scoreless ball in a 6-3 Mets defeat to the Cardinals in the first game of a doubleheader at Shea on September 22.

Bernard was traded to the Brewers after the '79 season. He pitched in a total of 53 regular season games for the Milwaukee team in 1981 and 1982. As a Brewer, Dwight appeared in the '82 American League Championship Series and World Series. He then pitched three more seasons in the minor leagues to conclude his career.
