The Mets and Pirates made a trade after the 1974 season. Catcher Duffy Dyer went to Pittsburgh in exchange for outfielder Gene Clines. Over the previous seven seasons, Dyer played in 375 games for the Mets. He had a .219 batting average with 16 home runs and 97 runs batted in. Clines was a mostly a reserve in his five seasons with the Pirates.
Clines appeared in 82 games for the Mets in 1975. He had 46 hits, 10 RBIs and 25 runs scored with the team. Gene was traded to the Texas Rangers after the season.
Dyer batted .227 in 269 games with the Pirates from 1975 to 1978. During his four years in Pittsburgh, Duffy became a member of a National League East Division champion in '75 and was the catcher for a no-hitter by John Candelaria in 1976. Dyer joined the Montreal Expos as a free agent following the '78 season.
