Donn Clendenon was a first baseman for the Mets from 1969 to 1971. He hit .267 with 45 home runs and 171 runs batted in during his time in New York. Clendenon had 404 total bases in 281 games as a Met.

The Mets acquired Clendenon from the Expos in a trade on June 15, 1969. Over the rest of the '69 season, he got 51 hits in 72 games played for the team. At Pittsburgh on July 6, Donn had a run-scoring double and a three-run homer in the Mets' 8-7 win over the Pirates. He homered twice in a 5-4 Mets victory on September 2 at Los Angeles. Clendenon also hit two home runs against the Cardinals at Shea Stadium on September 24 in the Mets' 6-0 win to clinch the National League East Division title.

In the 1969 World Series, Clendenon had a .357 batting average in the Mets' triumph over the Orioles. He homered three times to drive in four runs in the four games in which he played. Donn was named Most Valuable Player of the Series.

Clendenon set a Mets record with 97 RBIs in 1970. He batted .288 with 18 doubles, 3 triples and 22 home runs for the year. On April 7, Donn hit a two-run single in the 11th inning that gave the Mets a 5-3 victory at Pittsburgh for their first ever Opening Day win. He hit a sacrifice fly to drive home the winning run in the 9th for a 3-2 Mets triumph over the Pirates at Shea on June 29. Clendenon set a Mets single-game record of 7 RBI with a sacrifice fly and 2 three-run homers in the team's 12-2 victory over the Giants on July 28 at Shea. He hit a three-run homer in the first inning of the Mets' 12-9 win at Pittsburgh on August 8. Donn also had a game-tying homer in the ninth inning of the Mets' 6-3 win over the Cubs in 10 on September 28 at Shea.

In 1971, Clendenon had 108 total bases in 88 games. He had 11 homers among his 65 hits for the season. At Shea on April 16, Donn homered for the only run of a 1-0 Mets win over the Pirates. He got a run-scoring single in the 11th inning to give the Mets an 8-7 win over the Braves at Shea on May 22. Against the Phillies at Shea on June 19, Clendenon hit a home run in the bottom of the 15th for a 6-5 Mets victory. He had a two-run single and a two-run homer in the Mets' 9-2 win over the Dodgers in the first game of a doubleheader at Shea on August 28. At Chicago on September 23, Donn homered for the last time as a Met in the team's 5-4 victory over the Cubs.

Clendenon finished his career with the Cardinals in 1972.
