Don Heffner

Don Heffner was a coach for the Mets in 1964 and 1965. He served as the third base coach under Casey Stengel and Wes Westrum during his two seasons on the staff.
Heffner was a major league player from 1934 to 1944. He collected 610 hits with the Yankees, Browns, Athletics and Tigers. Don managed in the minor leagues between 1947 and 1963. In 1962, he led the Reds' AAA-level team in San Diego to a .604 winning percentage and the championship of the Pacific Coast League.
In between stints as a minor league manager, Heffner also served as a major league coach for the Athletics and Tigers. Following his time on the Mets' staff, he became the manager of the Reds. In 1966, Don guided the Cincinnati team until his dismissal after 83 games into the season. He was on the coaching staff of the California Angels in 1967 and 1968. Heffner also managed the Twins' AA-level team in Denver in 1969.
