Dock Ellis was a pitcher for the Mets in 1979. He compiled 85 innings pitched in 17 games with the team. Ellis had three wins and 41 strikeouts as a Met.

Ellis came to the Mets in a trade with the Texas Rangers during the '79 season. He was the winning pitcher in a 12-5 Mets victory over the Dodgers at Shea Stadium on July 12. Dock pitched six innings and got the win in the Mets' 4-2 triumph in the first game of a doubleheader at Montreal on August 5. He also had three scoreless innings of relief to get a win in a 3-2 Mets victory over the Pirates in 15 innings on September 8 at Shea.

On September 21, 1979, Ellis was sold to the Pirates. He appeared in three games for the Bucs in their run to the National League East Division title to close out his 12-year career.
