Dick Smith

Dick Smith was an outfielder and first baseman for the Mets in 1963 and 1964. He played in 66 games with the team. Smith batted .228 as a Met.
Smith joined the Mets during the '63 season. As a pinch-runner on July 23, he scored his first major league run in the Mets' 9-1 loss at San Francisco. Dick singled for his first major league hit in a 9-0 Mets defeat at St. Louis on September 5. He also hit a three-run triple in the Mets' 5-4 win on September 21 at San Francisco.
In '64, Smith had 21 hits for 29 total bases. He tied Joe Christopher and Ron Hunt for the team lead in stolen bases with 6. At Shea Stadium on May 14, Dick hit three doubles and scored three runs in the Mets' 12-4 victory over the Braves. He had five hits for eight total bases, two RBIs and three runs scored in a 19-1 Mets win at Chicago on May 26. Smith also scored one of five Met runs in the seventh inning in the team's 7-4 win over the Colt .45s on June 2 at Shea.
Smith was traded to the Dodgers for pitcher Larry Miller on October 15, 1964. In 1965, he went hitless in 6 at bats with the Los Angeles team. Dick continued to play in the minor leagues until 1968.
