Dick Sisler

Dick Sisler was a coach for the Mets in 1979 and 1980. He served under Joe Torre during his two years on the team's staff.

Sisler was a player in the major leagues from 1946 to 1953. He batted .276 in 799 games with the Cardinals, Phillies and Reds. Dick had 55 home runs in his career, one of which was for three runs in the 10th inning that gave the Phillies a pennant-clinching 4-1 win at Brooklyn on October 1, 1950.

From 1957 to 1960, Sisler managed in the Reds' minor league system. He was on the coaching staff of the Reds for their pennant-winning 1961 season and later served as team manager. Dick was on the Cardinals' coaching staff from 1966 to 1970, during which the Redbirds won two pennants and a World Championship. He was also a member of the Padres' coaching staff in 1975 and 1976.

Sisler left baseball following his two seasons on the Mets' coaching staff. He died on November 20, 1998 at the age of 78.
