Dick Schofield

Dick Schofield was a shortstop for the Mets in 1992. He played in 142 games with the team. Schofield had 86 hits and 11 stolen bases as a Met.

Schofield (whose father, Dick Sr., was the first player ever to come to bat at Shea Stadium in 1964) came to the Mets on April 12, 1992, after ten seasons with the California Angels. He compiled 120 total bases in his lone year in New York. At Montreal on April 17, Dick had a single, a double and three runs scored in a 10-2 Mets win over the Expos. He homered and drove in two runs in the Mets' 3-0 victory over the Dodgers on May 10 at Shea. Schofield had a pair of singles and an RBI in a 4-1 Mets win over the Cubs at Shea on June 23. He had a three-run double and a three-run homer in the Mets' 8-4 triumph over the Giants on July 19 at Shea. Dick had an RBI single and a run scored in a 3-0 Mets win over the Cubs in the first game of a doubleheader at Shea on August 1. He singled twice and doubled in a 4-1 Mets win at San Francisco on August 24. Schofield also had a run-scoring double and a sacrifice fly in the Mets' 6-3 victory at Philadelphia on September 7.

In January of 1993, Schofield joined the World Champion Toronto Blue Jays as a free agent. He was a member of the Jays for their '93 repeat title and played for the Toronto team again in 1994. Dick appeared in a total of 21 games for the Dodgers and Angels in 1995. He concluded his career with the Angels in 1996.
