During Spring Training in 1967, the Mets traded outfielder Derrell Griffith to the Astros for infielder Sandy Alomar. Griffith had come to the Mets in a four-player deal with the Dodgers only four months earlier. Alomar joined the Houston team in a trade with the Braves the previous New Year's Eve. Neither player got the chance to play a regular season game with their respective teams before being dealt for each other.
The trade had no value for the Mets or the Astros. Alomar had 22 hitless at-bats in 15 games with the Mets in '67. He was traded to the White Sox on August 15. Griffith never played in a game for Houston as his major league career ended.
