Derek Bell was an outfielder for the Mets in 2000. He played in 144 games with the team. Bell had 145 hits and 87 runs scored as a Met.

Bell came to the Mets in a trade with the Astros on December 23, 1999. In the 2000 season, he hit 18 homers and drove in 69 runs. At Shea Stadium on April 3, Derek hit a game-winning home run in the eighth inning to give the Mets a 2-1 win over the Padres. He had a total of eight hits and six RBIs in 8-3 (first game of doubleheader) and 15-8 Mets victories over the Cubs at Shea on April 22 and April 23, respectively. Bell singled home the winning run in the ninth inning for a 7-6 Mets win over the Diamondbacks at Shea on May 21. He drove in five runs with a single, double and homer in a 12-2 Mets victory over the Yankees on June 9. Derek had a single, two doubles, a homer and four RBIs in the Mets’ 9-1 triumph over the Braves on July 1 at Shea. He singled twice, homered and scored four runs in an 11-7 Mets triumph at Toronto on July 18. Bell also hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning in an eventual 6-5 Mets victory in 11 innings at Houston on August 7.

In 2001, Bell concluded his 11-year major league career with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
