Dennis Cook was a left-handed relief pitcher for the Mets from 1998 to 2001. He had a 25-13 won-lost record and 234 strikeouts with the team. Cook pitched in 255 games for the Mets.

Cook joined the Mets in a trade with the Florida Marlins in December of 1997. In the ’98 season, he posted a 2.38 earned run average and led all Mets pitchers with 73 appearances. At Shea Stadium on April 22, Dennis pitched one and two-thirds hitless innings and got the win in a 10-7 Mets victory over the Astros. He had two perfect innings for a win in the Mets’ 2-1 triumph over the Yankees on June 28 at Shea. Cook pitched a perfect tenth inning to earn a win in a 7-6 Mets victory over the Giants at Shea on August 4. He also recorded four strikeouts in two shutout innings and chalked up a win in a 5-4 Mets triumph on August 28 at Los Angeles.

In 1999, Cook had 68 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched. He recorded 10 wins and 3 saves during the Mets’ Wild Card season. In April, Dennis was the winning pitcher in three consecutive relief appearances. He retired three straight batters for a save in a 4-3 Mets win at St. Louis on June 17. Cook pitched a perfect seventh inning and got the win as the Mets defeated the Cubs, 5-4, on July 23 at Shea. He also recorded a save in a combined shutout with Kenny Rogers for a 4-0 Mets victory over the Astros at Shea on August 25.

Dennis pitched in 68 games in the 2000 season. He had 6 wins for the Mets in the team’s pennant-winning year. At Tokyo, Japan on March 30, Cook was the winning pitcher in the Mets’ 5-1 triumph over the Cubs in 11 innings. He had two strikeouts in a perfect tenth inning to get a win in an 8-7 Mets victory over the Orioles at Shea on June 8. Dennis pitched one and two-thirds perfect innings to get a save in a 6-1 Mets victory on August 4 at Arizona. He also recorded the win in a 7-5 Mets triumph over the Rockies in the first game of a doubleheader at Shea on August 15.

Cook pitched in 43 games for the Mets in 2001. He recorded one win and 34 strikeouts with the team during the season. In the season opener at Atlanta on April 3, Dennis pitched a perfect ninth inning and recorded his only win of the year in the Mets’ 6-4 victory in 10 innings. He also struck out three batters in one and two-thirds innings in a 10-9 Mets win on May 7 at Colorado.

On July 27, 2001, Cook was traded to the Phillies with Turk Wendell for Bruce Chen and Adam Walker. He pitched in 19 games for the Phillies over the rest of the ’01 season. Dennis concluded his career with 37 game appearances for the World Champion Anaheim Angels in 2002.
