David Weathers

David Weathers was a relief pitcher for the Mets from 2002 to 2004. He appeared in 180 games with the team. Weathers had 12 wins, 7 saves and a 3.22 earned run average as a Met.
Weathers joined the Mets as a free agent after ten major league seasons. In ’02, he compiled a 2.91 ERA with 61 strikeouts. David got his first Mets win in an 11-2 victory at Atlanta on April 6. He struck out four batters in two scoreless innings in the Mets’ 6-5 win in 10 innings at Florida on May 31. Weathers pitched a pair of shutout innings and got the win in a 5-2 Mets triumph over the Expos on July 22 at Shea. He was the winning pitcher in a 5-2 Mets victory at Colorado that ended the team’s 12-game losing streak on August 24. David also got the win in the Mets’ 3-1 triumph over the Cubs on September 17 at Shea.
In 2003, Weathers pitched a team-high 77 games. He recorded all seven of his Mets saves during the season. At Shea on April 4, David struck out four batters in two scoreless innings as the Mets defeated the Expos, 4-0. He pitched a scoreless eighth inning and got the win in a 6-3 Mets victory over the Marlins on April 18 at Shea. Weathers was the second of three Met pitchers in a combined one-hitter for a 5-0 victory at Florida on June 17. He recorded his first save of the year in the Mets’ 6-2 win on July 5 at Cincinnati. David had four strikeouts in two perfect innings for the save in a 2-0 Mets win over the Brewers at Shea on July 30. He also pitched the last two innings to get the save in the Mets’ 3-1 triumph over the Braves on August 28 at Atlanta.
Weathers had a 5-3 won-lost record in 2004. He struck out 25 batters during the season. At San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 9, David was the winning pitcher in the Mets’ 3-2 victory over the Montreal Expos in 11 innings. He got wins in Met triumphs over the Giants on May 5 (8-2) and May 6 (2-1 in 11 innings) at Shea. Weathers pitched a scoreless eighth inning and came out with a win as the Mets defeated the Rockies, 5-4, at Shea on May 22. He also pitched a perfect ninth inning and got the win in a 5-3 Mets victory in 10 innings at Philadelphia on June 2.
On June 17, 2004, Weathers was traded to the Houston Astros. He pitched in 26 games for the Astros before finishing the season with the Florida Marlins. David pitched for the Cincinnati Reds from 2005 to 2009. He ended his career with 25 relief appearances for the Milwaukee Brewers in ’09.
