David Segui

David Segui was a first baseman and outfielder for the Mets in 1994 and 1995. He played in 125 games with the team. Segui batted .257 with 12 home runs and 54 runs batted in as a Met.

Segui came to the Mets in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles on March 27, 1994. He collected 91 hits in the strike-shortened ’94 season. From April 16 to April 26, David had a ten-game hitting streak in which he had a .308 batting average. He had a two-run homer and a run-scoring single in an 8-1 Mets win at St. Louis on May 5. Segui hit a game-winning homer in the eighth inning to give the Mets a 5-4 triumph on May 9 at Montreal. He drove in three runs with two singles and a homer in an 11-3 Mets win at Florida on June 18. David tripled and scored the Mets’ final run in a 5-4 victory over the Padres at Shea Stadium on July 16. He also had a pair of RBIs in the Mets’ 7-1 win on July 25 at St. Louis.

As a Met in 1995, Segui hit .329 with 35 total bases. At Shea on April 29, he had a sacrifice fly and a home run in the Mets’ 5-4 victory in 11 innings over the Cardinals. He singled twice and drove in a run in a 5-3 Mets win over the Braves at Shea on May 11. David had three singles and two runs scored in the Mets’ 6-3 triumph over the Giants at Shea on May 27. He also had a pinch-hit two-run single in the Mets’ 8-0 victory over the Padres on May 30 at Shea.

On June 8, 1995, Segui was traded to the Montreal Expos for Reid Cornelius. He played for the Expos through the end on the 1997 season. David continued his major league career for seven more years, ending it with the Orioles in 2004.
