David Newhan

David Newhan was an outfielder for the Mets in 2007. He played in 56 games with the team. Newhan had 15 hits and nine runs scored as a Met.

Newhan had spent six seasons with the Padres, Phillies and Orioles before joining the Mets as a free agent. He served mostly as a utility player during the ’07 season. In the season opener at St. Louis on April 1, David singled and scored a run in the Mets’ 6-1 win over the Cardinals. He singled and scored in a 9-2 Mets victory at Florida on April 18. Newhan hit a two-run homer in a 12-3 Mets loss to the Brewers on May 12 at Shea Stadium. At Shea on May 17, he led off the ninth inning with a single to begin a comeback that produced a 6-5 Mets win over the Cubs. Newhan had a run-scoring single that put the Mets ahead to stay in a 7-1 victory over the Diamondbacks on June 2 at Shea. He also drove in the Mets’ final run with a single in a 13-0 triumph over the Marlins at Shea on September 29.

In 2008, Newhan played in 64 games with the Astros. He spent the 2009 season with the Phillies’ AAA-level Lehigh Valley team in Allentown, Pennsylvania. David did not play professional ball in 2010 due to an off-season injury. He joined the Padres’ organization in 2011.
