The Mets and Padres made a trade on the last day of November in 1972. Outfielder Dave Marshall went to San Diego in exchange for pitcher Al Severinsen. Marshall batted .243 as a part-time player for the Mets over the previous three seasons. Severinsen had a 3-7 won-lost record with a 3.08 earned run average in 88 career games pitched.
Severinsen did not appear in a game for the Mets. In 1973, he was released by the team during Spring Training. Al never played professional baseball again. Marshall played in 39 games for the Padres in '73 to conclude his career.
