Prior to the start of the 1967 season, the Mets made a trade with the Cardinals. Danny Napoleon and Ed Bressoud were sent to St. Louis for Jerry Buchek, Tony Martinez and Art Mahaffey. Buchek and Martinez were infielders with more than four years of major league service and Mahaffey was a seven-year veteran pitcher. Bressoud was an 11-season major leaguer who was approaching his 35th birthday while Napoleon spent most of the previous two seasons in the minor leagues.

Despite their experience, Mahaffey and Martinez did not appear in any games for the Mets. Each played very briefly for AAA-level Jacksonville in '67 and ended their careers shortly thereafter. Buchek batted .219 with 15 homers in two seasons with the Mets.

Bressoud hit .134 in 52 games with the Cardinals to end his career in '67. Napoleon never played in the major leagues again.
