On October 2, Danny homered for the only run of a 1-0 Mets win over the Expos in the first game of a season-closing doubleheader at Shea Stadium.

In 1984, Heep batted .231 in 99 games. In a game against the Phillies on June 21, Danny got three hits and scored two runs in a 10-7 Mets win that put them into first place. Heep's only home run of the season came off the Expos' Charlie Lea in a 2-0 win on June 23.

Heep's batting average improved to .280 in 1985. He also hit 7 homers at set a career high with 17 doubles. Facing the Cardinals' Neil Allen, Danny walked with the bases loaded to drive in the winning run in the 11th inning on April 11. He drove in five runs in a 9-4 Mets victory at Cincinnati on May 3. Heep hit a two-run homer in the Mets' 7-3 win at San Diego on June 2. One day later, he hit a game-tying homer with two out in the ninth off the Dodgers' Ken Howell. Danny also had a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly in the Mets' 7-3 victory at Philadelphia in 11 innings on June 12.

In '86, Danny played in 86 games for the Mets in their World Championship season. He hit .282 with 5 homers and 33 RBIs for the year. On April 20, Heep hit a three-run homer off Kevin Gross in the first inning to help propel the Mets to an 8-0 win over the Phillies at Shea. In the second game of a doubleheader at Pittsburgh on June 6, he had a two-run double and a stolen base in the Mets' 10-4 victory over the Pirates. Danny singled three times and scored twice in the Mets' 4-3 win over the Expos at Shea on August 3. In Game 4 of the NLCS, Danny drove in the Mets' only run with a sacrifice fly off Scott. He also got a two-run single off Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd in the first inning of Game 3 of the World Series in the Mets' 7-1 win over the Red Sox.

Following the '86 championship, Heep was set free by the Mets. He joined the Dodgers in 1987 and remained with them through their 1988 championship season. Danny then played two seasons in Boston, where he appeared in two games of the 1990 ALCS against Oakland. He concluded his career with the Atlanta Braves in 1991.
