Dan Norman was an outfielder for the Mets from 1977 to 1980. He played in 139 games and got 65 hits during his time with the team. Norman had 9 home runs and 30 runs batted in as a Met.

Norman came to the Mets with Doug Flynn, Steve Henderson and Pat Zachry from the Cincinnati Reds in a trade for Tom Seaver on June 15, 1977. He appeared in his first seven major league games in the final week of the '77 season. Dan got a single off the Pirates' Jim Rooker for his first major league hit at Pittsburgh on September 28.

In 1978, Norman spent the season with the Mets' AAA-level Tidewater team in Norfolk, Virginia. With the Mets in September, he went 17-for-64 (.266) and homered four times. Dan hit his first major league home run off the Expos' Ross Grimsley at Montreal on September 6. At Philadelphia on September 15, he hit two homers and drove in the winning run with a 10th inning sacrifice fly for a 5-4 Mets' triumph. Norman hit two singles and his first career triple in the second game of a doubleheader at Chicago on September 29.

Dan started the 1979 season in the minor leagues and joined the Mets in July. He got into 44 games, hitting 3 home runs and driving in 11 runs. At Cincinnati on August 19, Norman hit a game-tying two-run homer as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning. He homered off John Candelaria in a 3-0 Mets win at Pittsburgh on September 16. Dan also had a run-scoring single and a three-run homer in the Mets 8-7 win at St. Louis on September 29.

Norman had two home runs and 9 RBIs in 1980. Both of his homers came as a pinch-hitter at Chicago on April 12 and at Pittsburgh on September 21. At St. Louis on October 4, Dan had two run-scoring singles in a 5-2 Mets win over the Cardinals.

On May 29, 1981, Norman was traded with Jeff Reardon to the Montreal Expos for Ellis Valentine. He finished his career with the Expos in 1982.
