Harry Arthur "Cookie" Lavagetto was a coach for the Mets in 1962 and 1963. He served under Casey Stengel during the team's first two seasons.

Lavagetto played in the major leagues with the Pirates and Dodgers from 1934 to 1941. After four years out of baseball during World War II, he returned to the Brooklyn team. Cookie got a game-winning double in the ninth inning for the Dodgers' only hit of a 2-1 win over the Yankees in Game 4 of the 1947 World Series. This was the last hit for Lavagetto in his career.

From 1951 to 1953, Lavagetto was a coach for the Dodgers. He served on the staff of the Washington Senators from 1955 to 1957. During the '57 season, Cookie was named Senators' manager and served in this role until the team's first year as the Minnesota Twins in 1961. He then joined the Mets' coaching staff.

Following his time with the Mets, Lavagetto served as a coach for the San Francisco Giants from 1964 to 1967.
