Clint Hurdle

Clint Hurdle was a player for the Mets in 1983, 1985 and 1987. He served as an infielder, outfielder and catcher in his three seasons with the team. Hurdle appeared in a total of 59 games with the Mets.
After five years with the Royals and one with the Reds, Hurdle signed with the Mets as a free agent on April 7, 1983. He played the '83 season with the Mets' AAA-level Tidewater team in Norfolk, Virginia and joined the parent club in September. Clint had six hits and three runs scored as a Met for the year. In the final game of the season on October 2, Hurdle hit two doubles (one of which drove in a run) in the Mets' 5-4 win over the Expos at Shea Stadium.
In 1984, Hurdle played another year with Tidewater. He returned to the Mets in 1985 as a reserve catcher and outfielder. For the season, Clint had 4 doubles and 3 home runs among his 16 hits in 43 games played. Against the Pirates at Shea on April 28, Hurdle drove in the winning run to give the Mets a 5-4 victory in the 18th inning. He hit one of five homers for the Mets in a 16-4 triumph over the Braves on July 20 at Shea. Clint also had a run-scoring double in the Mets' 6-4 win over the Cubs at Shea on August 9.
Hurdle played the 1986 season with the Cardinals. He came back to the Mets' organization in 1987 and had three at bats in three games with the team. On June 17, Clint singled and scored the Mets' only run in a 9-1 loss at Montreal.
From 1988 to 1993, Hurdle served as a manager in the Mets' minor league system. In the 2000s, he managed the Colorado Rockies for eight seasons, leading them to a National League pennant in 2007. On November 14, 2010, Hurdle was hired as the manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
